Artist Statement

As a dancer, my body is my paint brush, which I sweep through various colors to create images and stories. My body is my instrument in which I tune to ensure it will facilitate me throughout my performance. Like any artist, I take great care of my tool but I am most fulfilled when exploring its capabilities to release its true potential. I enjoy pushing my physical abilities to create innovative and interesting movement. As an artist, I am constantly and continuously learning about myself and the world around me to inspire my performance and creations. I am passionate about dance because it allows me to share stories, images, and feelings through the medium that I feel most natural with.

Teaching Statement

Being a student all my life has taught me many things about teaching; a teacher should be able to speak confidently about the subject but also listen to their students. A teacher should be optimistic to create a positive space but notice areas of weakness and be able to assist growth. A teacher should stress the importance of technique but allow room for the students creativity. Being a teacher, especially of an art form, means you must create balance between instructing and discovering. I think it is important to help guide students through critical thinking and imagery to their own conclusions. Maintaining a positive atmosphere is of high importance to me in order for students to feel confident within an art form like dance.
